APPLICATIONS ARE NOT AVAILABLE BETWEEN APRIL 15 AND NOVEMBER 15.

Candidates MUST meet the eligibility requirements stated on each of the respective applications. A candidate must reside in the home state of an active UNICO Chapter. Applications may be acquired from and submitted through a State Chapter, the District Governor or the UNICO National Office.

Dr. Anthony P. Vastola envisioned an Italian American civic organization that would benefit society while celebrating our illustrious heritage.  Of priority was a commitment to promoting higher education.  Today, UNICO continues Dr. Vastola’s vision by awarding scholarships to deserving students.

UNICO National offers the following scholarships: 

Sergeant John Basilone Memorial Postgraduate Scholarship:

The UNICO Foundation, Inc. will grant up to a maximum of $6,000, for a postgraduate scholarship, to a student attending an accredited program at a college/university in the United States at $1,500 per year. A candidate must be a United States citizen of Italian heritage.

Dr. Benjamin Cottone Memorial Scholarship:

The UNICO Foundation, Inc. will grant a $5,000 scholarship, paid on award, to a student pursuing postgraduate education at an accredited medical school in the United States. A candidate must be a United States citizen of Italian heritage. 

Bernard and Carolyn Torraco Memorial Nursing Scholarships:

The UNICO Foundation, Inc. will grant  $2,500 scholarships, paid on award, to students attending accredited prelicensure or graduate nursing programs in the United States. Preference is given to applicants demonstrating financial need. A candidate must be a United States citizen.

The UNICO Foundation, Inc. will grant four $6,000 scholarships to high school seniors who will be attending an accredited college/university program in the United States, each at $1,500 per school year up to a maximum of 4 years. A candidate must be a United States citizen of Italian heritage.

Undergraduate candidates are encouraged to apply for all four scholarships. To do so requires the original application and three complete copies, including attachments. Multiple copies are necessary because scholarships are judged at different locations. 

 

Ella T. Grasso Literary Scholarship:

The UNICO Foundation, Inc. will grant a $1,000 scholarship to a student attending an accredited college or university in the United States.  The purpose of the Ella T. Grasso Literary Scholarship is to acknowledge the author of an exceptional essay of short story on a positive Italian American experience.

DiMattio Celli Family Study Abroad Scholarship:

UNICO Foundation, Inc. will grant $1,250 scholarships to two students attending accredited study abroad programs, in Italy, associated with a college or university in the United States.  The purpose of the DiMattio Celli Family Study Abroad Scholarship is to assist young scholars by defraying the cost of studies in Italy. Application deadline: February 15, 2014

Louise Torraco Memorial Scholarship for a Doctorate in Science:

The UNICO Foundation will grant two scholarships valued at $2,500 each, to students enrolled as PhD candidates pursuing study of the Physical Sciences or Life Sciences. A nominee must hold United States citizenship. This program is open to applicants of all ethnicities.

  
Ralph J. Torraco Doctoral Scholarship for the Study of Ancient Mediterranean History/Archaeology:
 
The UNICO Foundation will grant two scholarships, valued at $2,500 each, to students enrolled as PhD candidates pursuing study of the history and/or archaeology of ancient Mediterranean cultures. A nominee must hold United States citizenship. This program is open to applicants of all ethnicities.

The UNICO Foundation will grant two scholarships, valued at $2,500 each, to students enrolled as PhD candidates pursuing the study of music. A nominee must hold United States citizenship. This program is open to applicants of all ethnicities.
